Pella is a beautiful town with a rich Dutch heritage. The Pella area has a population of just over 13,000 people. Residents enjoy fantastic events designed for people of all ages, public and private school systems which consistently rank high in the state of Iowa, and a top-notch regional health center. Pella is home to several large, globally known manufacturers. Pella Community School is a fantastic public school system where students are provided the best opportunities to succeed in the classroom, theatre, music, and athletics. Pella Community is consistently rated a top twenty public school in Iowa, priding itself on exceptional graduation rates.
Pella Christian Schools
Pella Christian is a private school known for its high level education. Students receive a top notch education while also attending chapel twice a week. Many national award winning programs are offered for students in theater, music, and athletics as well as the classroom. Pella Christian is rated one of the 50 best Christian schools in America.
Central College is a small liberal arts school located in the heart of Pella, with 73 academic programs to choose from. While attending Central, class sizes will be small, and all the classes are taught by actual professors. Central also offers many ways to be involved in the community. They have a fantastic catering business as well as provide exceptional rental halls for all kinds of events.

Pella Regional Health Center (PRHC) is a regional hospital which brings in specialist physicians from all over the area. PRHC has an entire floor dedicated to obstetrics, as well as a dialysis unit, emergency department, surgical department, and many other inpatient and outpatient health services. PRHC seeks to serve patients with professionalism and Christian compassion.
Pella has many options for dining, shopping, and enjoying a drink downtown. The Pella Downtown District is a great place to stroll and window shop. With 18 places to grab a bite to eat or some coffee, go for a drink, or indulge in some sweets, the downtown area has something to please any appetite. A very active entertainment center is found at the Pella Opera House. Explore the many clothing stores, get your flowers and cards, purchase electronics and hardware, and shop for furniture. One of the features of downtown Pella is the Pella Historical District. Beautiful flower gardens, the tallest working windmill in North America, and Wyatt Earp’s boyhood home are found in the Historical Village. Get out of the house and explore the gardens in the spring when the tulips are in full bloom!
Pella has many ways to enjoy being active at several parks, a plethora of public tennis courts, an aquatic center, 18-hole golf course Bos Landen, as well as a 9-hole country club, and the state’s largest lake. Lake Red Rock offers many activities such as a biking path, beach activities, camping, boating, a state of the art marina, and you can enjoy the view from on top of Cordova Tower.
Our Economic Development
Pella is the home to several large manufacturers such as Pella Corp, Vermeer and Precision Pulley and Idler (PPI). These large companies have received numerous awards over the years as top companies to work for. There are also many small locally owned companies with great reputations. You can find about any kind of job you are looking for in Pella.
Pella is home to the world famous Tulip Time celebration where the town’s Dutch heritage is proudly on display. Tulip Time features over 100,000 beautiful tulips, three days of afternoon and evening parades, a grandstand show every afternoon and evening, as well as a plethora of food stands. Traditional Dutch food, Dutch dancing, and street scrubbing are part of the festivities. A flea market at West Market Park with a wide variety of items for sale is also part of the weekend.
Thursdays in Pella, a weekly city celebration, runs every Thursday in June and July. They focus on different themes each week, with each theme bringing different activities for the evening. Food vendors line Broadway Street and serve a variety of food like burgers and brats, BBQ, Chinese, ice cream, and kettle corn. Kids can enjoy a bounce house and inflatable slide on select evenings as well.
The Fourth of July brings about a special time in Pella, a day full of food and fun. A Fourth of July parade featuring many floats and even Abe and Martha Lincoln happens in the afternoon. The day ends with an exciting fireworks display at dusk.
The Red Rock Balloon Fest is a three-day event held in early July. You will experience the thrills of watching beautifully designed hot air balloons float in the sky over the lake all three days (weather permitting). Partnering with the balloon launch, a 5K/10K race occurs, as well as a pancake breakfast and many family-friendly activities for children too.
When winter comes we celebrate the season with several events. First comes the Tour of Stores and Christmas tree lighting on the Tulip Toren. The downtown retailers mark down their merchandise, decorate their windows, and stay open late for customers to shop. At 6pm on the same night, the big Christmas tree on the Tulip Toren is lit for the first time. Sinter Klaas even makes an appearance! The other big event in the winter is the Tour of Homes, where a few select homes are elaborately decorated for the Christmas season and open for people to tour.
